Ginetta GT4 Supercup 2018 Round 6 – Rockingham
Round 6 – Knockhill
Ginetta GT5 Challenge round 6 – Knockhill
The penultimate round of the GT5 Challenge headed up to Scotland to race as a support of the British Touring Car Championship at Knockhill. Testing on Friday beforehand showed I had very good pace compared to my competitors and looked like I was very much in the hunt for a top 5 grid position. Unfortunately, a prop shaft failure in the final session on Friday called a close to the testing and I would miss the last session.
On Saturday I was still able to qualify 9th which I was relatively pleased. However, race 1 would only last one corner before my race was over. Having made a good start, I was 8th heading through turn 1 when a competitor in front of me spun and I had nowhere to go and contact was inevitable. The whole front left had side of the car was damaged with broken suspension so I had to park up and become a spectator with my first DNF of the whole season so far.
Race 2 I would start last after race 1 and was looking like it could be a chance to have some fun cutting my way through the field. However, only a few laps into the race, my differential now started playing up with a tendency to lock the rear left wheel under braking. This made the car difficult to drive and having still made up places at the start of the race struggled to hold onto them with my pace dropping off every lap. I started 24th and finished 18th which ended another weekend where I left thinking of what could’ve been this weekend. I’ll be expecting to end my season on a high at Donington but until then I am left with a month’s break to train and prepare.
